Peta Lloyd - Collagraph + Monoprint + Book

The collagraph* print is textural, seductive and versatile.  The plate is made from a collage of low relief textured materials, such as wallpapers, string, fabrics, leaves, threads, tapes that are glued onto a rigid substrate, such as mat board or grey board.

This workshop will see you combining your collagraph prints with a range of mixed media techniques including chine colle and the a la poupee method of inking up your plate, this is an exciting traditional way of inking up a plate using a number of colours.

The versatile collagraph will also be printed in both intaglio and relief.

Monoprinting using stencils and flat objects is an immediately gratifying printmaking process.  A press and Gelli plate will be used to produce interesting marks and images by layering handcut stencils with leaves and textured surfaces.

Your collagraph plates will be used to add a further layer of prints to your monoprinted papers.

During this class you will explore and experiment with a range of materials and techniques to create and print your collagraph plates.  As well as textured materials you will also explore the use of gesso, wood glue and carborundum for their unique mark making qualities.

Your prints will be displayed within several 3D book-display formats, such as: flag book, CD display, concertina fold and a hard covered gatefold display.

*The word collagraph is derived from the Greek word koll or kolla meaning glue and graph meaning the activity of drawing.
